What HomeRules knows about you: nothing.

Last updated: 9 October 2026

HomeRules is made by A Brand New Company (ABN). In short: we collect nothing. No account, no server, no tracking. Nothing leaves the phones, not to us and not to anyone else. That's why the App Store says: Data Not Collected.

What we don't do

  • You don't create an account. We don't know your name, email address or phone number, nor your child's.
  • The app sends nothing to us or anyone else. HomeRules has no server. There's no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third party crash reporting inside.
  • HomeRules doesn't read messages, doesn't track location, doesn't see websites and takes no screenshots. It doesn't count screen time either.
  • iOS itself keeps which apps lock. The app only gets a shielded reference, no names. Only the lock screen shows the name of the app your child opens, on the phone itself.
  • Codes don't travel over the internet. Your phone makes them, your child's phone checks them. If you share a code with the Share button, it goes through the app you pick. We never see it.

What stays on the phones

On your child's phone

  • Your child's name, the house rules, the apps that lock (as an iOS reference) and whether the heads-up is on.
  • In that phone's Keychain: the secret of each linked parent, the PIN as a salted hash (it can't be turned back into the PIN) and the counters for wrong codes.

On your phone

  • Per child a name and the link secret, in your phone's Keychain.

Codes and the link secret stay in the Keychain of each phone. They don't go into a backup or to a new phone, and the app never shows them. The rest may be in the phone's own backup, in iCloud or on your computer. Only you can get to that. We can't get to anything.

Permissions the app asks for

Screen Time, on your child's phone

To lock apps, HomeRules uses Apple's Screen Time features. In the full version Apple asks for your Apple Account as the parent. In light mode Apple asks for Face ID or that phone's passcode. You pick the apps in Apple's own list. The app doesn't see how long your child uses apps.

Camera, on your child's phone

Only to scan the QR code when you link. No photo is taken or kept.

Face ID, on your phone

Before every code the app asks for Face ID or your passcode. iOS checks it. The app never sees your face and keeps nothing of it.

Notifications

The heads-up five minutes before a rule starts is scheduled by the phone itself. Nothing goes through a server.

Purchase

You buy HomeRules in the App Store. Apple handles the payment under its own privacy policy. We receive no personal data about you. Apple only shows us sales figures that can't be traced to you, and crash reports from people who chose to share them with developers.

Children

HomeRules collects no data from children. From nobody, really. Your child's name and the house rules stay on the phones and never reach us.

Deleting

Delete the app and the house rules and settings on that phone are gone. There's nothing on our side to delete.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no scripts or fonts from others.

To deliver the page to you, our host Vercel Inc. and the Cloudflare Inc. network process technically necessary data, like your IP address, the page address and the time, in server logs. We do this on the basis of legitimate interest: without that data a website doesn't work and can't be protected against abuse. We only use the logs when something goes wrong, and can see them for a day at most. We don't keep or export them. Vercel and Cloudflare keep them a short while longer for security, under their own privacy policies.

Vercel and Cloudflare are American companies, so data may go to the United States. Both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which allows that transfer under the GDPR.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, also on the basis of legitimate interest. We keep the email while your question is open and at most a year after, and delete it sooner if you ask.

Who is responsible

A Brand New Company (ABN), Volume 88, 1446 WJ Purmerend, the Netherlands. Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 88565548. Reach us at info@abn.company.

Because the app collects nothing, there's nothing about your use of the app for us to show, correct or erase. If you emailed us, you can always ask to see or delete that email. You also always have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting anything, we'll say so beforehand, in the app and in the App Store.
